Social media is a rapidly growing way for individuals and businesses to communicate with one another. It makes it so easy to share everything with your followers, but should you? Check out these rules to make sure you’re using your social media platforms from Instagram to Google+ in the best ways possible!
DO: Be Interactive
Interact with your followers! If someone shouts out your company or features your product, ‘like’ or ‘comment’ on the post. Doing so makes your followers feel connected to your business and shows that you care. Someone made a negative post about you? Still be sure to address it and respond the best that you can. Transparency is key in a successful business.
DON'T: Be Repetitive
If you make a post on Instagram, don’t just share it to your Facebook and Twitter. Make sure you’re making unique posts on each outlet. You could make an Instagram exclusive offer or release a new product sneakpeek exclusively on Facebook. This will keep your followers interested and more inclined to follow more outlets!
DO: Be Mindful of Your Outlet
No two social media outlets are the same. While Twitter encourages sharing multiple times a day, Facebook is better off with just one post a day. Remembering your outlet and being mindful of your posting habits on them will make sure that you’re not spamming followers or leaving them wanting more!
DON'T: Forget About LinkedIn
LinkedIn is one of the best social networks out there for business yet it can often be overlooked. It is a great place to communicate with other similar businesses, professionals or advertise your business. (More on how to use LinkedIn for your business to come in a future blog post!)
DO: Use Multimedia in Your Posts
Today’s society is a visual one. Audiences tend to be drawn towards posts with pictures or videos included. Want to make a post about how to use a product? Use a video! According to MarketingLand.com, Cosmopolitan saw 53% more shares on posts that contained videos compared to posts that did not include multimedia. Posting about a new product? Include a picture of it to make a strong connection. Get creative with these posts and be sure to have fun with them. They are a great way to show another side to your brand.
DON'T: Go Overboard with the #Hashtag Trend
We admit it - we can be a little hashtag crazy every now and then but don’t let your message get lost in the symbols. Hashtags are a great way to drive attention to your brand by linking it with similar posts through keywords. Be sure that you don’t go overboard though! One or two well thought out, relevant hashtags will drive relevant, quality traffic to your post. Use your brand-specific hashtag along with one or two tags related to your brand and post. If you’re announcing a new face moisturizer you could use your brand hashtag along with #BeautyNews and #SkinCare!
DO: Stay True to Your Brand
Make sure your posts are true to your brand. Make sure your posts fit your interests, as well as the interests of your audience. Though something may be trendy, it may not be the best post for your brand. It is also important to stay true to your brand when it comes to choosing your outlet. Is your brand a young, trendy brand? Instagram might be a great outlet for you. Are you a more mature brand? Facebook might be the best outlet to reach your target audience.
